Burst Pipes

Every day in the London, Surrey and Kent (especially in winter) pipes are bursting, mainly as a result of sub zero freezing temperatures, which normally affects poorly insulated or external pipes.

Our advice, in the event of a burst pipe emergency is to act as quickly as you can to minimalise the damage that the water from the burst pipe will do to your property. If you have a burst pipe (or a leak that you can't see where it's coming from), you should:

  • Control where the leaking pipe's water goes (i.e. Put a bucket underneath it)
  • Turn your central heating off from the boiler.
  • Locate the stopcock and turn the sink and bath taps on, which will drain the water pipes in the property.
  • Avoid touching any electrical sockets or wiring that you think may have got wet from the burst pipe's leak.

The next thing we recommend is to call one of DS Serve's professional plumbers if you haven't already done so, as an internal burst pipe can be very hard to locate and repair with minimal damage by an unskilled person.

Ensure you react fast, as water leaking or gushing from a burst pipe has been known to cause serious damage to home's structures and electrical wiring.

DS Serve's reliable plumbers have the experience and training to use several different environmentally friendly techniques when it comes to making leaks safe and repairing burst pipes.  The team are accustomed to fixing burst pipes inside your home or outside your property.  Our engineers are always polite, courteous and will always tidy up after themselves having repaired your burst pipe water emergency.

Preventing Burst Pipes

It is of course cheaper in the long run and sensible to prevent pipes bursting rather than to deal with the cost and inconvenience of repairing a burst pipe. The first step you can take to preventing a burst pipe is to ensure that you:

  • Insulate your attic or loft
  • Insulate your water pipes
  • Keep the loft warm on the coldest of days - (i.e. open the hatch and allow the house's warmth in)
  • Never put off any plumbing repairs as things like dripping taps can aid freezing.

Further to this, you could look at regular maintenance as an option. If you would like us to clean and/or maintain your home, office or unit's pipes and plumbing, contact us for an excellent quote & a 1st class service which will leave your pipes and plumbing in the best possible condition for avoiding costly inconvenient suprises.

Our plumbing team not only deal with burst pipes, but are also trained and able to take care of all plumbing issues around your home, office, shop or unit.
